Great Day for Ruíz in Whales Win
The Virginia Beach Whales defeated the Yakima Hops, 9-4, at Hops Park today. Leading the charge for Virginia Beach was right fielder Manuel Ruíz. He was 3 for 5 with 2 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice. The win was credited to Cody Wilson in relief. His record improves to 3-0. Mario Durán took the loss. At 52-27, the Whales have a slim two-game lead in the Silver AA.

Ruíz had a game-changing home run in the top of the seventh. On a full count cutter from Mario Durán, he banged a 2-run home run to left, giving the Whales a 5-3 lead. It was the 14th home run of the year for Ruíz.

"We've got a great group of guys," Ruíz said, "and we're having fun right now."
