Whales Rally For Late Win Over Continentals
Virginia Beach beat Chesapeake at Virginia Beach Grounds, escaping with a 5-4 win. The win in large part was due to catcher Xavier Mercier, who earned player of the game honors. He was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Wu-shiun Lao earned the save, his 5th, for the Whales. The 'W' lifts Virginia Beach's record to 46-25.

Virginia Beach took a 4-3 lead on Mercier's 12th home run of the season. The 3-run home run, which he hit off Jason Todd in the bottom of the eighth, propelled Virginia Beach to the win.

"I like the grit of this ballclub," Mercier said.
