Virginia Beach center fielder Leon Green had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Green went 1 for 1 with a home run and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once, even as Irving beat the Whales, 6-5. Green was named the player of the game despite the loss. Irving reliever José Colón picked up the win, upping his record to 3-0. Wu-shiun Lao took the loss. Cheung Lai was credited with the save for Irving, his 1st of the season.
Nelson Morán's hit in the top of the ninth was a game-changer. With two out, he rapped a fastball from Wu-shiun Lao for a 2-run single. It put Irving in front, 6-5.
"It wasn't our best performance," said Morán, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
Irving is now 33-30.
