Youth Continue Skid Thanks to Mastin, Whales
The Virginia Beach Whales did just enough to secure a 8-7 victory over the Phoenix Hotspur Youth at Grenadiers Ballpark. Nobody did more than shortstop Walt Mastin, who captured player of the game honors. Bruno Mumford picked up the win, improving his season record to 3-3. He struck out 2 in 5.2 innings. The first-place Whales have won 9 straight.

Virginia Beach took a 4-0 lead on Mastin's 2nd triple of the season. The bases-clearing triple, which he hit off Francisco Medine in the top of the sixth, propelled Virginia Beach to the win.

"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Mastin told the Virginia Beach Herald.
