Virginia Beach Makes It 7 Straight with 8-5 Win
|
The Virginia Beach Whales defeated the Phoenix Hotspur Youth, 8-5. Earning player of the game honors was right fielder Manuel Ruíz, who went 4-5 with a double and 3 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Joe Holbrook picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 4-0. Derek Jones was tagged with the loss. Wu-shiun Lao was credited with the save for Virginia Beach, his 3rd of the season.
Ron Lawrence, who is tied for 2nd in the SAA with a .453 on-base percentage, contributed to the Virginia Beach win with a solo home run in the top of the eighth. For the game, the first baseman had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 1 run batted in.
"We maximized our offense today," said Virginia Beach skipper Bernie Drake. "That makes everyone's life easier."
