The Chesapeake Continentals and Virginia Beach Whales brought some excitement to Chesapeake Grounds.

The Virginia Beach Whales defeated the Chesapeake Continentals, 11-2, at Chesapeake Grounds today. Leading the charge for Virginia Beach was center fielder Dave Thomas. He went 3 for 5 with 3 singles and a walk, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2. The winner was Bruno Mumford, who threw 75 pitches over 5 innings. The left-hander was charged with 1 run on 6 hits. Kidlat Tria sewed up the save, his 2nd.

Virginia Beach used the timely hitting of Ron Lawrence to capture the win. The first baseman stroked a 2-run double in the top of the first inning to put the Whales on top, 2-0. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but he made it count.

"I like winning," Lawrence told the Virginia Beach Herald. "I may joke around, but when it comes down to it, winning is the most important thing."
