Victory Over Fur Traders Takes Virginia Beach to 32-18
|
Virginia Beach starter Bruno Mumford pitched effectively against the Tacoma Fur Traders at Ballpark of Tacoma. The left-hander led his team to a 7-3 win. Mumford, the winner, moves to 1-3. He threw 5.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 2 walks. The Whales raised their record to 32-18.
Virginia Beach used the timely hitting of Ron Lawrence to capture the win. The first baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Whales ahead, 5-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was an important one.
"We played hard and won," said Mumford. "Sometimes, baseball really is that easy.'
