Ruíz Smacks 5 Hits for Whales
Manuel Ruíz was at the head of a Virginia Beach Whales hit parade today at Virginia Beach Grounds. The 25-year-old went to the plate 6 times and came away with 5 hits, but it was the Biloxi Shuckers that marched off with the 9-7 win.

"We didn't have it today," griped Whales skipper Bernie Drake following the game. "Manuel did fine, but as a team, we didn't do it with the bats and we didn't do it pitching."

Ruíz did more than fine, dominating the Shuckers at the plate during his record-making 5-for-6 performance.

"Each time I went to the plate, I was thinking about hitting the ball hard somewhere," the sweet-swinging right fielder told reporters. "When I focus on that, I usually have quality at-bats."

Manuel Ruíz singled in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Roberto Cabrera in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 4th, grounded out in the 6th, singled in the 7th and doubled in the 9th.

On the year Ruíz is hitting .280 with 44 hits, 6 home runs, 29 RBIs, .394 OBP and has scored 30 runs.
