|
Virginia Beach beat Belvedere Park on the strength of starter Manuel Ruíz's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a 4-3 win. In 6 innings, Ruíz surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run. Danny Richardson sewed up the save, his 2nd.
Virginia Beach used the timely hitting of Ron Lawrence to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth inning to put the Whales on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"I had a good game," said Ruíz. "Winning makes it even better."
The first-place Whales have won 4 straight games.
