Irving pitcher Carlos Simon gave the Whales all they could handle, but in the end, Virginia Beach left Virginia Beach Grounds with a 2-1 win. Simon allowed no earned runs on 1 hit over 5 innings. Virginia Beach reliever Ernest Howe was the winner. His record is now 3-1. The losing pitcher was Manuel Montero. Kenny Hunt nailed down his 2nd save.
Jorge Díaz, who is tied for 6th in the SAA in triples with 2, aided the Virginia Beach cause with a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth. For the game, the left fielder drove in one run.
"I was a little disappointed," said Irving manager Bill Clark. "We could've and should've scored more runs."
