Varela Goes Off, But Fur Traders Win
|
The inspired effort of Chesapeake right fielder Lorenzo Varela was not enough to prevent a 7-6 loss to the Tacoma Fur Traders. Varela went 3 for 3 with 2 home runs and 2 walks, while adding 5 RBI and scoring twice. Tacoma reliever Steve Jackson was the winner. His record is now 1-2. Brooks Senetzer took the loss. With the win, Tacoma has a record of 14-13. Chesapeake falls to 6-21.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the seventh, with the game tied, Dale Clark was at the plate when Tacoma scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Fur Traders to go in front, 7-6.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Clark said.
