Jeffrey van Veldhuizen pitched well, but the Hamilton Coyotes still lost the game, falling 3-1 to the Syracuse Starks at Coyote Wildlife Refuge. Syracuse reliever William Fothergill got the win, raising his record to 1-1. Jeffrey van Veldhuizen was tagged with the loss. With the victory, the Starks record now stands at 14-16.
Syracuse used the timely hitting of José Cuervo to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Starks on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Can't say enough about our pitching," said Cuervo.
