Coral Reefers Beat Flyers, 6-4
|
The Key West Coral Reefers beat the Pennsauken Flyers, 6-4, at Milton Corner Tavern. The win was largely due to the efforts of center fielder Jordan Westacott, who captured player of the game honors. He went 3-4 with 3 singles and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Alberto Ortíz, who went 6.1 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 4 runs on 6 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 8. His record now stands at 1-0. Larcena Pennington sewed up the save, his 1st.
Key West second baseman Juan Martínez contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With two down, he hit a curveball into center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 12th hit of the season and put the Coral Reefers ahead, 6-4.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Westacott. "And not try to do too much."
The win gives the Coral Reefers a record of 7-6.
