Biloxi Snaps Wade's Streak at 21
Saturday, September 1st, 2035
For 21 straight games, Karl Wade tried to ignore his hitting streak. It wasn't easy.
Well, the 25-year-old Springfield Shooters first baseman can forget about it now -- it's over, courtesy of the Biloxi Shuckers. The Shuckers held him hitless in 4 at-bats at Springfield Stadium today and snapped his consecutive-game hitting string at 21.
There was at least one good note to the end of the streak, however, as the Shooters took the win by the score of 7-4.
"I tried to ignore it for weeks, but you guys in the media wouldn't let me," he joked with reporters after the game. "I'm looking forward to some peace and quiet now."
Wade is hitting .345 this year with 21 home runs and 66 RBIs. He also has an OBP of .426, 52 walks and scored 61 times.
