Polar Bears Karlier No-Hits Nationals
Thursday, July 17th, 2036
Billings Polar Bears starter Albert Karlier said he was standing behind the mound when the scoreboard caught his eye, confirming what he already knew: He was one out from a no-hitter. For a couple of seconds, he didn't move.
"I took a breath and told myself 'This is the last one,'" Karlier recalled.
The right-hander collected himself, got the final out, and finished one of the greatest performances of his career.
The Billings right-hander no-hit the Ottawa Nationals 5-0 at Nationals Park, finishing with 3 walks and 11 strikeouts, facing only 29 batters.
"I knew for a while it was a no-hitter," Karlier admitted later. "But I really didn't worry about it until the last out. I thought I just wanted to win the game, and then I realized I wanted the no-hitter, too."
