Derksen Belts Bunch of Base Hits
Monday, September 1st, 2036
Syracuse left fielder Akke Derksen went down swinging at Stark Stadium today, knocking out 5 hits even as his Starks fell, 6-3.
"It was like I was hitting Little League pitching," Derksen said after his 5-for-5 performance against the Pennsauken Flyers. "No offense meant to Pennsauken, but it was like I was back in little league again -- I could see the ball that well."
After the game, his manager elaborated on the left fielder's improvements, saying Derksen spent the offseason trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball.
"That's what I'm trying to do," Derksen agreed. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it."
Akke Derksen hit a solo-shot off Ralph Haggerty in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, doubled in the 7th and doubled in the 9th.
Thus far in 2036 Derksen is hitting .316 with 11 home runs, 62 RBIs, 51 runs scored and has compiled a .377 OBP.
