Win Streak Now at 6 for Rainbow Mermaids
|
Thunder Bay got a terrific performance from shortstop Ramón Padilla, but it wasn't enough to beat the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids. Northern Virginia won the Great Northern Field contest, 10-6. Padilla was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Brewster Warble was credited with the save for Northern Virginia, his 16th of the season. The 4th-place Rainbow Mermaids have won 6 consecutive games.
Northern Virginia needed the clutch hitting of Daniel McCoy to notch the win. The right fielder hammered a grand slam home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Rainbow Mermaids on top, 7-1. For the game, McCoy had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," McCoy said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
