Host Hotspur Drop Pivotal Game , Now Trail Series -
|
Game was big. So was Juan Contreras.
The Charleston starter rose to the occasion at Chase Field today, earning player of the game honors after leading the Battery to a crucial 5-2 victory over the Phoenix Hotspur. Contreras threw 5 innings of 4-hit ball as the Battery won on the road to seize a - lead in the best-of- United States Premier League Championship.
Charleston used the bat of António Martínez to get the win. The third baseman hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Battery ahead, 3-1. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it did its damage.
Martínez told a Charleston Herald reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.
Game 4 is set to be played tomorrow in Phoenix. The scheduled starters for the game are Aldo Raine for the Charleston Battery and José Ruíz for the the Phoenix Hotspur.
