Almost There: Charleston On Cusp of R1 Triumph After 5-4 Win
|
The Charleston Battery went into extra innings against the Boston Patriots but ultimately moved to within one game of the Round 2 today.
The Battery downed the Patriots at Dunkin Donuts Park by a score of 5-4. Even as his squad took the loss, Boston right-hander Firpo Marberry was named player of the game for a solid outing in which he threw 6 innings of shutout ball. The win gives the Battery a - advantage in the best-of- United States Premier League Championship.
The result might have been different for Charleston, had it not been for Tural Bishara. The left fielder produced a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Battery ahead, 5-4. For the game, Bishara had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Bishara. "And not try to do too much."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Dunkin Donuts Park. Slated to start are Juan Contreras for the Charleston Battery and Sam Mooney for the the Boston Patriots.
