Mercer Island Wins at Home to Take 3-2 Lead in R1
The Mercer Island Screaming Eagles moved to within one game of the Round 2 today, downing the visiting San Bernardino Grasshoppers at Mercer Island Grounds by a score of 6-4. Screaming Eagles right-hander Aldo Ottens was named player of the game after a strong outing in which he threw 6 innings of 5-hit ball. The win gives the Screaming Eagles a 3-2 advantage in the best-of-5 PL AA Championship.

A critical at-bat came in the bottom of the seventh inning when the Screaming Eagles sent 22-year-old right fielder Asbel Kiprop to the plate with runners on 2nd and 3rd. The youngster shook off the pressure and hit a sacrifice fly, to put Mercer Island on top, 4-3.

Kiprop said afterward that the win gets the team one step closer to its goal.
