Mercer Island Breaks Through for First Win in PL AA Championship; Now Trails 2-1
|
The Mercer Island Screaming Eagles have closed some of the gap between themselves and the series-leading San Bernardino Grasshoppers, winning 5-1 at Field of the Grasshoppers today. Screaming Eagles right-hander Pedro Herrera was named player of the game after he threw 9 innings of 1-hit ball. The win cuts the deficit facing the Screaming Eagles to 2-1 in the best-of-5 PL AA Championship.
Herrera was effective against the Grasshoppers, seldom allowing a hard-hit ball. The right-hander limited San Bernardino to just 1 run on 1 hit over 9 innings.
"We're one game closer to our goal," Mercer Island manager Omer van Osch said later. "It isn't any more complicated than that."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow. Slated to start are Raimo Kangas for Mercer Island and José Rodríguez for San Bernardino.
