Alston Handcuffs Highlanders, Atoms Seize 3-2 Advantage in R1
|
The Bethesda Atoms needed some last-minute heroics to do it, but ultimately emerged one game away from the Round 2 today. The Atoms got the 6-4 win against the Asheville Highlanders in a walk-off at Atoms Field. Bethesda right-hander Mick Alston was named player of the game after a solid outing in which he threw 7 innings allowing 4 runs. The win gives the Atoms a 3-2 advantage in the best-of-5 3L AA Championship.
Arturo Annunziato swatted a 2-run home run for Bethesda in the bottom of the ninth. The center fielder went 2 for 5 for the game, including 1 home run and 1 double. He scored 2 runs and batted in 2.
"If I do my job, we've usually got a good chance to win the game," said Alston.
