Asheville Takes 2-1 Series Lead Behind 4 RBIs from 2B Webster
|
The Asheville Highlanders needed some late heroics to do it, but ultimately emerged one game away from the Round 2 today. The Highlanders needed 10 innings before taking the 6-5 win against the Bethesda Atoms in a walk-off at Asheville Park. Asheville designated hitter Bruce Webster was named player of the game after he went 3 for 5 with 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. The win gives the Highlanders a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-5 3L AA Championship.
The game came to a dramatic end. In the bottom of the tenth, with Asheville trailing 5-4, Webster hit a fastball from Suhaila Zainuddin for a 2-run home run, giving the Highlanders the walk-off win.
"I like our moxie," said Highlanders manager Mark Everhart.
The next game is scheduled for tomorrow at Asheville Park in Asheville. The scheduled starters for the game are Ernesto Méndez for Bethesda and Alberto Ortíz for Asheville.
