Atoms Hammered by Girard, Drop Game 2 to Highlanders
|
With shortstop Yves Girard leading the charge, the Asheville Highlanders got a road win over the Bethesda Atoms, 6-4, in Game 2 of the 3L AA Championship today. Girard went 2-3 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once at Atoms Field to help Asheville force a 1-1 tie in the best-of-5 series.
Troy Flynn's hit in the top of the ninth was a game-changer. With no one out, he rapped a fastball from Dragutin Petrovic for a run-scoring single. It put Asheville in front, 5-4.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Asheville manager Mark Everhart.
The next game is scheduled for Wednesday, September 24th, 2036. Slated to start are Ernesto Méndez for the Bethesda Atoms and Robert Snoddy for the the Asheville Highlanders.
