The stakes were high. Mick Alston was ready.

The right-hander turned in a performance for the ages at Atoms Field today, pitching a 9-inning, complete-game shutout to lead the Bethesda Atoms to victory in Game 1 of the 3L AA Championship. Alston held the Asheville Highlanders to 5 hits and no walks, while striking out 9. The win got the best-of-5 series off to a good start for Bethesda, which now leads 1-0.

Alston delivered a quality start for Bethesda. The 6' 2" right-hander allowed no runs on 5 hits over 9 innings of work.

"I felt good even in the late innings," said Alston after the game.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Atoms Field in Bethesda. Slated to start are Jacob Petithomme for Asheville and Eduardo Flores for Bethesda.
