Almost There: Thunder Bay On Cusp of R1 Triumph After 6-5 Win
|
An all-important Game of the Silver League Championship went into extra innings at Ebbetts Field, with the Thunder Bay Northern Lions BC eventually emerging on top. Thunder Bay has Jorge Herrera to thank, after the right fielder went 3 for 7 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2 in the 6-5 victory. The Northern Lions BC are now one game away from the Round 2, holding a - lead in the best-of- series.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Domingo Altamiraño came to bat in the top of the 12th. Facing Brooklyn pitcher Ramón Granados, he hit a 1-0 cutter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Thunder Bay on top, 6-5.
"We're not going to sweep 'em," Altamiraño said in response to a question after the game. "Brooklyn is too good not to take a game somewhere."
