Thrice as Nice: New Orleans On Verge of Sweep after Walk-off Win
|
The New Orleans Voodoo started the Round 1 in dramatic fashion today, stealing Game 1 from the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids in a walk-off in the 11th inning. New Orleans took the 3-2 win thanks in large part to a good day from starter Eric Matson. The right-hander threw 7 innings of 6-hit ball in the win, which gave the Voodoo a - lead to start the best-of- series.
The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Griffin Woodfinlevine came to bat in the bottom of the 11th. Facing Northern Virginia pitcher Yoriyoshi Sugimoto, he hit a 3-1 curveball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting New Orleans on top, 3-2.
"It's great when the crowd gets into it," Woodfinlevine said.
