Almost There: New Orleans On Cusp of R1 Triumph After 5-2 Win
Game was big. So was David Buchanan.

The New Orleans starter rose to the occasion at Atlantica today, earning player of the game honors after leading the Voodoo to a crucial 5-2 victory over the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids. Buchanan threw 6 innings of 2-hit ball as the Voodoo won on the road to seize a - lead in the best-of- Round 1.

New Orleans used a timely hit from Lupo Cotto to get the win. The designated hitter delivered a 2-run triple in the top of the first inning to put the Voodoo on top, 2-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"I don't care a whit about getting a sweep," Cotto said. "The only part of it that matters to me is it means we've got a lot of chances to get that last win."
