Almost There: Northern Virginia On Cusp of R1 Triumph After 4-1 Win

Game was big. So was Maxime Janssens.
The Northern Virginia starter rose to the occasion at The Cattle Pen today, earning player of the game honors after leading the Rainbow Mermaids to a crucial 4-1 victory over the Ft. Worth Cattlemen. Janssens threw 6 innings allowing 1 run as the Rainbow Mermaids won on the road to seize a - lead in the best-of- Silver League Championship.
Northern Virginia used the timely hitting of Eric Deweese to capture the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Rainbow Mermaids on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but he made it count.
"We haven't forgotten how long this series might be, but is a heck of a lot better than - ," Deweese said.
