A strong performance from pitcher Neil Franson was not enough for the Greenville 84s, who were stopped by the visiting Kingston Township Knights in a 4-0 loss in Game of the Third League Championship today. The Knights never truly figured out the right-handed Franson, who threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball to earn player of the game honors. Still, the Knights now hold a - in the best-of- series.

Ed Mellor dealt the 84s a blow in the bottom of the fourth. Batting with the bases empty and Kingston Township leading 1-0, Mellor, who leads the 3L in extra base hits with 26, hit a 2-0 sinker for a solo home run.

"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Kingston Township manager Rayzor Ray. "It's usually not just one thing."
