Pivotal Game Goes to Host Rainbow Mermaids, 3-2
|
The Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids took the first game of the Silver League Championship in dramatic fashion today, topping the Ft. Worth Cattlemen with a ninth-inning walk-off 3-2 victory. Cattlemen pitcher Jack Buyse put up a productive, if futile, game and was selected player of the game after he threw 8 innings of 3-hit ball.
Scott Dourque was the walk-off hero for Northern Virginia. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Rainbow Mermaids center fielder hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"It was a good win," Northern Virginia manager David Lister told BNN reporters after the game. "I told them I was proud of them. These guys are professional ballplayers, they know how to get motivated without my help."
