Buckhead first baseman Derek Bangert was the key at Great Northern Field today, being named player of the game as he powered the Bowties to victory in a critical Game of the Round 1. The Bowties took the 5-4 win over the Thunder Bay Northern Lions BC to seize a - lead in the best-of- series.
The Bowties took a 5-0 lead in the top of the sixth inning. Facing Thunder Bay hurler Jon Briddon with no outs, Bangert hit a 3-run home run.
"We're not going to sweep 'em," Bangert said in response to a question after the game. "Thunder Bay is too good not to take a game somewhere."
