Fire Score Late, Upend Beavers, 5-3
|
Ballard got a terrific performance from pitcher Sake Bravenboer, but it wasn't enough to beat the Franklin Fire. Franklin won the Lawmen Ballpark contest, 5-3. Bravenboer was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball. Even with the win, the Fire have a dismal 30-61 record.
The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Dave Delaney came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Ballard pitcher Lonnie Slaughter, he hit a 1-0 cutter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Franklin on top, 4-3.
"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Delaney said after the game.
