Loss to Oaks Extends Cleveland Losing Streak
|
Cleveland got a terrific performance from center fielder Roberto Vázquez, but it wasn't enough to beat the Oakland Oaks. Oakland won the Factory of Sadness contest, 7-3. Vázquez was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He went 2-3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Jeff Mahl, the winner, improved to 4-4. He held Cleveland to 3 earned runs on 6 hits over 5.2 innings, while racking up 7 strikeouts. The Browns have now dropped 7 straight.
Oakland used the timely hitting of Mike Wazowski to capture the win. The left fielder socked a bases-clearing double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Oaks ahead, 5-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was an important one.
"We'll pop the top on a cold one and get back to work tomorrow," Wazowski said.
