U-21 Raise Rally Flag, Beat Phoenix, 3-1
|
The Phoenix Hotspur Academy got a superb performance from pitcher Matt Dunn. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Athletic Club KC. The U-21 won the game, 3-1. In spite of the loss, Dunn was named the player of the game. He threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball. Hendri Zeitler picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 3-0. Cipriano Cereceres was tagged with the loss. Athletic Club KC is 4th in the Menard's R with a record of 30-22.
Had Long Yimu not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Yimu hit a 2-run double. That made the score 3-1, in favor of the U-21.
"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said U-21 manager William Franklin, "I like our chances."
