Rainbow Mermaids Jolt Oaks with Late Rally
|
The Rainbow Mermaids grabbed a win, 3-2, at Oakland Coliseum, overcoming a fine effort from Oakland pitcher Jeff Mahl. Mahl went 6.1 innings and allowed no earned runs. The Rainbow Mermaids sit in second place in the Silver League with a record of 20-12.
Northern Virginia needed the clutch hitting of Zeus Preckwinkle to notch the win. The center fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Rainbow Mermaids on top, 3-2. For the game, Preckwinkle had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Northern Virginia manager David Lister said.
