Oakland turned a good effort from starter Kevin Nogilny into a win over the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids at Oakland Coliseum. The final score was 6-1. Nogilny, the winner, moves to 4-0. He threw 6 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 6 and giving up 2 walks. Oakland has run its win streak to 4 in a row.
Ieyoshi Samurakami had a big bases-clearing double for the Oaks in the bottom of the third inning. With Oakland leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Ratko Davidovic and stroked the double to center. It was his 8th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Oaks ahead, 4-0.
"Baseball is about momentum," said Samurakami, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
