Getting a good performance from catcher Henri van Amersfoort, the Ogallala Octopi defeated the Fort Knox Centennial, 9-4. van Amersfoort went 4-5 with 4 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Octopi. Ogallala reliever Rafael Gallegos picked up the win, bumping his record to 2-1. Bing-zhong Qiu was collared with the loss. The Centennial, now 7-6, continue their sluggish start.
A key at-bat in the game came in the bottom of the sixth inning when the Octopi sent teenager Lao-che Ching to the plate against Centennial hurler Bing-zhong Qiu. With runners on 1st and 3rd and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a single off a first pitch fastball to score 1.
"We did more than enough to get the win," said Ching.
