Cajuns Get 6-3 Win Versus Fort Knox
|
The first-place Crowley Cajuns welcomed Fort Knox to Titans Ballpark.
The Fort Knox Centennial got a sterling performance from pitcher Rio Dring, but the Cajuns still prevailed, 6-3. Dring was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 5 innings of 4-hit ball. Melvin Martínez picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-0. Rickey Warner was tagged with the loss.
A critical at-bat came in the bottom of the seventh inning when the Cajuns sent 20-year-old third baseman John Birges to the plate with the bases loaded. The youngster shook off the pressure and got hit by a pitch, driving in 1 run, to put Crowley on top, 3-2.
Birges called the win "a collective effort."
The Cajuns, now 4-1, have played some good baseball in the early going.
