Benefiting from an exceptional performance from Arend van der Veen, the Mancelona Torch defeated the Rocky Mountain Vibes, 4-3. van der Veen was 3-4 with a home run and 2 doubles. He scored 2 runs for the Torch. Mancelona reliever Yong-oon Cho was credited with the win, to go to 5-2. Thie Calkhoven took the loss for Rocky Mountain. Lucas Gameiro converted his 15th save in 15 tries.
van der Veen had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the eighth. On a 1-1 fastball from Thie Calkhoven, he banged a solo home run to right, giving the Torch a 4-3 lead. It was the 2nd home run of the year for van der Veen.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," van der Veen said.
The Torch now have a mark of 25-35.
