Blaze Win in Extras
|
The Washington Generals got a superb performance from pitcher Manuel Ruíz. Still, it wasn't enough to beat South Beach. The Blaze won the game, 4-2. In spite of the loss, Ruíz was named the player of the game. He threw 6 innings of 5-hit ball. Jacob Swanson earned the save for South Beach, his 4th of the year. South Beach is now 41-16, Washington 23-34.
South Beach used the timely hitting of Ricardo Varela to capture the win. The left fielder socked a 2-run home run in the top of the 13th inning to put the Blaze ahead, 4-2. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"I give credit to my teammates for this win. We got it done," Varela told the South Beach Citizen.
