Blaze Continue Hot Start to Season With Win
|
Pipers Ballpark was the site of a competitive game between the Caldwell Chiefs and South Beach Blaze.
The South Beach Blaze beat the Caldwell Chiefs, 5-3, at Pipers Ballpark. South Beach first baseman Adam Smith earned player of the game honors. He collected 2 singles and 1 double, while driving in 1 runs. Vicente Martín locked down his 1st save.
Doug Cole went 1 for 3 with a walk and was hit by a pitch for South Beach. In the top of the seventh, with the teams deadlocked, 2-2, Cole delivered for the Blaze. His run-scoring hit-by-pitch put South Beach on top, 3-2.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Cole said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
The Blaze, now 13-5, have been on fire in the early going.
