The Caldwell Chiefs took Mancelona pitcher Anthony Hurst's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Torch Field. The final score had Caldwell getting past the Torch, 7-3. Hurst went 6 innings and allowed 2 earned runs, striking out 6. Caldwell reliever Brandon Hughes picked up the win to move to 1-0. Yong-oon Cho suffered the loss. The win leaves Caldwell with a record of 5-2.
Caldwell used the timely hitting of Daniel Divina to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Chiefs on top, 6-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Divina.
