Smokies Win at Niagara Falls, 5-3
|
The Tennessee Smokies picked up a win at Waterfall Park, knocking off the Niagara Falls Expos, 5-3. Starting pitcher Denie Coppens, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. The Smokies, now 40-53, have won 5 in a row.
Tennessee used the timely hitting of Jorge Indiano to capture the win. The third baseman stroked a 2-run double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Smokies on top, 5-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but he made it count.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Indiano told a Tennessee Gazette reporter. "Sometimes we need just to relax."
