Expos Bridle Reefers, 4-2
|
Niagara Falls left fielder Yaakov Shmerkin was instrumental in his team's 4-2 win over the Cape Coral Reefers. Shmerkin went 3-4 with 2 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Expos. Luis Cuevas, who went 7 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 2 runs on 5 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 4. His record now stands at 1-4. Bonifacio Navarro, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 6th save.
The Reefers had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Expos going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 21-year old shortstop John Fuller came to the plate. Fuller hit a 2-run single on a first pitch changeup from Cape Coral hurler Thomas Careless. It was Fuller's 31st hit of the year.
"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Shmerkin said after the game.
Even with the win, the Expos have a dismal 13-38 record.
