Syracuse right-hander Joe Holland made an effective start against the Myrtle Beach Seahawks at Seahwaks Stadium, leading his team to a 5-2 win. Holland got the win, improving to 1-1. He allowed 5 hits and walked 4 over 6.2 innings. Holland allowed 2 earned runs. José Colón got credit for the save for Syracuse. It was his 2nd of the year.
Syracuse used the clutch hitting of Stu Taylor to capture the win. The catcher drilled a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to give the Storm the lead, 5-2. For the game, Taylor had 1 single and 1 double in 4 at-bats.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Taylor. "And not try to do too much."
The Storm raised their record to 3-3.
