Chukars Score Late, Upend Vandals, 6-5
|
Chukars shortstop Fa-hsien Tze put his stamp on his team's 6-5 win over the Eugene Vandals. Tze was 3-3 with 3 singles and 2 walks for Idaho Falls in the contest. Idaho Falls reliever Min-zhong Zhai picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Juan Sánchez absorbed the loss. Jim Perry was credited with the save for Idaho Falls, his 4th of the season.
Had Ernesto Rivera not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Rivera hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Chukars.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Idaho Falls manager Greg Keys.
The last-place Vandals have dropped 4 straight games.
