Rainbow Mermaids Solve Outlaws, 6-2
|
The Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids bested the Nashville Outlaws by a score of 6-2, with left fielder César Gómes getting the main credit. On the day, Gómes was 2-5 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Rainbow Mermaids. Northern Virginia reliever Guldemunde Geilinger was credited with the win, to go to 1-0. Won-sup Yang took the loss for Nashville. Yoriyoshi Sugimoto picked up the save for Northern Virginia, his 2nd of the year.
Northern Virginia used the timely hitting of Tony Calhoun to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the first inning to put the Rainbow Mermaids on top, 2-0. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Calhoun attributed the win to "a well-rounded effort by the whole team."
Every game is important, even these early ones, if the Rainbow Mermaids hope to make a postseason run.
