The Athletic Club KC U-24 did just enough to secure a 5-4 victory over the Eugene Vandals at ACKC Youth Field. Nobody did more than pitcher Sam Johnston, who captured player of the game honors. Todd Garrett, credited with the win, is now 1-2. He allowed 1 run on 4 hits in 3 innings. With the win, Athletic Club KC goes to 18-20, while the Vandals fall to 9-29.

Athletic Club KC took a 5-4 lead on Howard Carpentier's 21st hit of the season. The run-scoring single, which Carpentier hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Eugene pitcher Cobus Kila visibly frustrated.

"I tried to mix it up, keep them off balance," said Johnston.
