Screaming Eagles Top Sonics in Extras

The Screaming Eagles had to overcome a fine effort from Atlantic City pitcher Félix Aluonado to grab a narrow 4-3 win at Sonics Ballpark. Aluonado went 7.1 innings and allowed 1 earned run. Mercer Island reliever Jorge Gil picked up the win, upping his record to 2-3. José González was saddled with the loss. Luis Oropeza, credited with the save, is now 9 for 10 in save opportunities.
Mercer Island used the timely hitting of Juan Reyes to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Screaming Eagles on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"This is a resilient bunch," said Mercer Island manager Omer van Osch.
Mercer Island goes to 66-32. The win puts them 8 games up in their division.
